The Migration of Love – An Exhibition Curated by Hotel Matilda

If any place has managed to position itself as a benchmark for artistic style and an alternative option in San Miguel, the first that comes to mind has to be Hotel Matilda, who repeated their magic by unveiling the art of J. Oscar Molina through the Supper Club that complemented Molina's artistic talent with the gastronomic magic of Chef Billy Maldonado.

The inauguration that took place this Thursday, September 26 in MoxiIt was a happening that we were happy to attend and that did not fail to appeal to our multisensory tastes that we felt stimulated from our arrival thanks to the welcome we received with a Casa Dragones cocktail with the delightful lychee as the star ingredient.

He Chef Vicente Torres welcomed the famous Chef Billy from FÓNICO - a place that has become a hot spot in Mexico City - to take over the kitchen and surprise us with a spontaneous menu, from which the highlight for us was a hot starter with red chili shrimp toast with a fresh apple salad with purslane, ginger mignonette with mushrooms and chiltepín chili, resulting in a very polarizing contrast of flavors that, surprisingly, complemented each other playfully on the palate.

Without a doubt, our preference for the dishes showed a weakness for the dessert consisting of a red fruit salad with beetroot infusion and fresh cheese ice cream, since we do not usually see beetroot used frequently for a dessert and that was an element that pleasantly surprised us and that we will surely try to replicate in the Local kitchen.

With distinguished guests from the artistic world such as Diego Boneta, the evening passed in a pleasant manner and gave rise to our culinary appetite being transformed into artistic curiosity that would be satisfied with the emotional depth of Molina's artistic proposal.

Known for his sculptural pieces and a series of paintings consisting of “Children of the World” that poetically reflect the artist’s own migration from El Salvador to the United States, his body of work could not help but move us as it tells a story of contemporary humanity.

The series now presented at Moxi and titled “The Migration of Love” is a series of pieces that did not fail to captivate the guests at the opening with its powerful message of love and how the human experience transcends borders by reminding us that we are all under the same night sky in which the stars shine brightly.

Such a powerful artistic curation will be at Moxi until October 27th, so both locals and foreigners will have enough time to make an obligatory visit to Hotel Matilda on an occasion that will invite introspection and of which we are sure one simple condition will remain: We are all human…
