MORNING VIBES: 12 Must-Have Breakfast Spots in San Miguel

Breakfast or lunch is one of the most satisfying and even intimate personal rituals, because it is not only about eating the first meals of the day but also sets the tone for having energy to be able to carry out all the activities of the day. It is also very subjective; there are those who get up between 5 and 7 am to train so they have breakfast according to their diet, or there are those who can and prefer to get up a little later and have a substantial lunch.

We Mexicans tend to go for the latter, a plate of chilaquiles or a freshly warmed tortilla with the family, and in San Miguel we have restaurants that are ideal for that. Here we tell you about the most popular ones, among which are some of our favorites.

Lavender Coffee

Starting with this well-known by locals and visitors. This is a coffee shop and specialty store that selects and brings the beans from different coffee-growing areas throughout Mexico, to roast them in small quantities and serve them directly at their two bars, the one at the Hernandez Macias 87 which is the first and foremost for its restaurant service, and that of Loreto 48 A, dedicated only to coffee in its different methods. It is worth visiting with the coffee experience in mind, and if you are not such a fan of this drink, they have delicious options such as chai latte. For lunch, we recommend the 'Cazuela', which is a baked potato, mushroom, cheese and ranch sauce, topped with a fried egg, bacon and roasted tomatoes, how does that sound?

Parish Coffee

In the middle of a typical courtyard of an old house on the street Jesus number 11 This traditional café was founded in 1989. It is one of those places where you feel comfortable from the moment you sit down at one of its classic wrought iron garden tables, listening to the water flowing from its fountain. As you can imagine, its specialty is traditional Mexican food, such as scrambled or divorced eggs, chilaquiles with beans, and freshly baked sweet bread. Our recommendation is that you try the chicharrón in sauce with beans from the pot, and of course a black coffee and orange juice to refresh yourself.

The Mail

This is another space that we love to visit for its warmth and service. Although the place on Calle de Mail 21 Although it's small (which means you'll have to wait a while), their traditional Mexican dishes are a great way to start the day. We're talking about beautifully served chilaquiles, eggs made to order, and more. Regulars recommend the chicharrón in green sauce, the tortilla soup, and the French toast with a very dark coffee. Mexico in all its splendor of colors and flavors is the atmosphere that this restaurant has to offer. Are you craving it? I would recommend the chilaquiles, for me, the best in town.

Cumpanio

Recovering a more contemporary style but enhancing the classic flavors of Mexican food (especially pastries), is this paradise for lovers of sweet bread (who are surely 99.9% of Mexicans). In the heart of street of Mail 29, very very close to the Parroquia, you can try not only their exquisite variety of breads, but also dishes such as chilaquiles with chicken, house-made Cumpanio eggs and a French toast that you won't believe. It is also worth visiting for their special brunch menu, where you can taste some seasonal cocktails and take home a few pieces of bread for the family. You can have brunch all day long

Jacques Cafe

Continuing with modern coffee shops, there is this one, known as the “favorite casual restaurant in the neighborhood”, in From the Village 3A, for being a bright space inspired by American and Mediterranean cuisine, which is also where their menu is based. We all love a nice patio, and this will become one of your favorites. Imagine drinking your freshly made natural juice surrounded by white walls, super cute murals and comfortable furniture in neutral tones. Everything looks succulent, but the recommendation is the famous San Francisco-style avocado toast, the grilled cheese sandwich or some house eggs. Pro tip: the place is pet-friendly, so you can stop by for breakfast after walking your dog. It also has a branch in Twelve 18 Concept House, in case it's closer to you.

Marsala, Cooking with Accents

The first gastronomic son of Chef Marcela Bolaño, is also located in the heart of the Center, in Hernandez Macias 48, and although during the week it functions more as a restaurant for lunch and dinner, on Sundays it has a special brunch from 11 am to 3 pm that has become a classic and is worth indulging in from time to time.

The Daughter of the Spring

This contemporary canteen in Mail 14 It is relatively new and is the favorite daughter of the famous Cantina El Manantial. During the week and in the afternoon and evening it is perfect for a few drinks and snacks like any good cantina, but on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm it has a special breakfast menu that ranges from coffee and bread to a plate of fresh fruit or chilaquiles with eggs and everything else that can't be missed to have a snack.

Inside Café

If you are looking for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, you will love it here, plus its view is particularly unbeatable as it is located on a terrace on the second floor of Insurgents 66What do we recommend here? The sandwiches, which come with a generous portion of green salad and avocado, as well as the chilaquiles with chicken accompanied by beans from the pot. There is a grilled cheese that is the signature dish of the house, with a sunny side egg with roasted cherry tomatoes that will make you come back very soon.

Axolotl

Books, coffee and art studio, this new cultural space in Hope 22, San Antonio Neighborhood It is a fantastic place to go to discover new readings or continue with your own, within its spacious lounges or in its garden, to spend some time relaxing and learning. One of the musts here is the cold brew made from organic coffee, with one at midday you will have enough to wake up and stay active, get to work or finish that book you had pending.

Ki'Bok Coffee

Good energy and the smell of coffee everywhere. On the corner of Ten of Sollano and Davalos 25, you will find this beautiful space with rustic decoration that also has a very comfortable terrace to enjoy your morning coffee and the view of the Center. They have the best methods for extracting coffee and some snacks for breakfast: fruit, eggs, bread, fresh juices and everything you need to be in a good mood during the day.

Cafe 1910

On the street of San Felipe 19 In Colonia San Antonio, you will see this unmistakable space with its little tables at street level. Here you will be conquered by its typical Mexican dishes such as chilaquiles, eggs to taste, fruit, fluffy pancakes and more, served substantially on very pretty blue talavera tableware. This is a great option if you are walking around the Centro and want to have breakfast before entering the main streets.

Good Morning Coffee

Here we have been very impressed by the fact that they have the classic Veracruz-style milky coffee, that concentrate that rises little by little to the rhythm of the stream of hot milk, a true pleasure for the palate and the sight. On the street Hidalgo 42 In the Center, you can discover this rustic space that has all the essentials of Mexican cuisine, with specialties such as omelettes, poached eggs, Benedictines, motuleños and more from its extensive menu, just to honor its name.
