This is the sixth installment of Local Soundtrack, a space in which month after month we present artists who make San Miguel de Allende sound with their instruments and voices.
There is no doubt that in this heritage city there is music for all tastes and today we bring you Los Unmasked Surfers, a band of young people from San Miguel with a career of 8 years who over time have evolved in their concept and sound, sharing their music on different stages and making everyone who listens to them dance.

The band is made up of Christian the saxophonist, Conde the guitarist and Ferbo. The members have changed over time and adversity but they always seek to innovate with new songs to the rhythm of Ska, Rock and Surf, as well as never missing covers that make everyone sing.
The band's name is a reference to "taking off the mask and being the Unmasked," while the "surfers" is for playing "surf" music.

The members' approach to music has been in different ways. Christian grew up in a family of musicians and one of his greatest inspirations has been his grandfather Julian Cervantes, who gave him all the knowledge he now has in music. He began playing the keyboard at the age of 8, and in high school he ventured into the flute and guitar, finishing now with the saxophone.
Conde started playing guitar at Casa de la Cultura and became so passionate about it that he now plays with the Unmasked Surfers.
And finally, Ferbo learned to play the guitar as a child, participating in a rondalla, and he learned the keyboard a little over 6 years ago, now with the band he took up this instrument again.
What do The Unmasked Surfers sound like?
The Unmasked Surfers have influences ranging from Urban Rock, Heavy Metal, Mexican and international Ska, Inspector songs and even Tri.

Surf music is a lot of what you're going to hear when you get to see them live.
Their songs and stage spirit seek to express freedom and avoid repression. The message is for people to open their minds and not remain silent about injustice, in terms of gender violence, government abuses and more.
The band has had the opportunity to share the stage with representative bands of Mexican ska such as Inspector and other bands from the region.
They say that every show is rewarding, especially when they see people dancing to their songs and see how much they enjoy the atmosphere.

They are currently working on their album titled “Bipolar”, it is important to note that this is their debut album and just this month they released their first song, so they invite all readers to follow them on their social networks so they don't miss any releases as well as upcoming dates.
We thank the band for taking the time to do this wonderful interview, and we wish them the best of success. Many thanks to you as well for reading us month after month. What song would you add to your playlist?
