GIFF (Guanajuato International Film Festival): Screenwriting Competition

According to Guillermo Arriaga, writer of the scripts for the acclaimed scripts of “Amores Perros” and “Babel,” a script should not be called as such since it means “guide” and rather be considered a literary work in itself.

Since writing film scripts is an art that should be considered as such, the writers of these books should be respected in the same way in the world of novel authors.

Continuing with the deep respect that Arriaga has for this art, is that the  Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) announces the National Screenplay Competition for short and feature-length fiction films.

26 states of the Mexican Republic and the United States participated in the previous edition of the call for entries, with a reception of 350 film books, 167 of which were short films and 183 were feature films. To date and since its first broadcast, the project has received the considerable number of 5,992 registered projects.

This call for applications was launched on February 15 and will continue to accept applications until April 3 of this year. You must be over 18 years old, the scripts must be unpublished, of course they must be written in Spanish, and they must have a cover with a title, pseudonym and a short synopsis of approximately 100 words in length.

The talented winning authors will be announced at the Closing Ceremony of the GIFF and will be awarded prizes that may vary from trophies, cash, equipment and services in kind for the production, all of this granted thanks to the sponsors who support audiovisual art.

If Local Guide readers require more information, they can simply review the entire call for applications at www.giff.mx or request information through the contact email script@guanajuatofilmfestival.com

It is time to honor this noble form of writing and to hand over our film scripts so that they can be brought to the big screen.
