Writers Festival

By Pamela Fink

Whether the letters written in manuscripts make you fly to other worlds or you are the one responsible for printing such stories, without a doubt the literary and writing tradition is one of the basic things that define us as humanity.

Both go intrinsically hand in hand and are almost impossible to separate. For all those passionate about literature, once again comes the Festival of Writers and Literature from San Miguel where the most prominent speakers come to our lands to enlighten us with their dialectics and help us polish our tools as writers.

How can I write better?

First of all, one must be in touch with one's feelings and be attentive to both the inner and outer world. One must listen carefully to extraordinary stories or simple conversations so that they can be put on paper.

Honing our talent and writing daily is another great tip, and attending the San Miguel Writers Festival is something that will make you discover new possibilities and our very isolated guild.

For this upcoming event, which will be held at the Hotel Real de Minas from 13 to 17 February, the organisers have excelled with the level of speakers who will be attending this year.

Starting with the most commercial part we have everyone's favorite redhead: Molly Ringwald yes, that girl who made you laugh and cry in The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink now comes as an actress with an enormous career and author of the novel: "When It Happens to You" in an intimate and vigorous personal exploration of adult life with themes such as infertility, romantic relationships and the happiness and hopelessness that this brings with it, characters of the author as vivid as her eighties films.

Mexico’s most renowned screenwriter and celebrated author, Guillermo Arriaga, will be present at the conference. Screenwriter of the feature films “Amores Perros” and “Babel,” Arriaga’s mastery of narrative structure is renowned for the brilliant way in which he interconnects different stories. Novels such as “Salvar el Fuego” and “El búfalo de la noche” have positioned him as an indispensable author in Mexican literature.

Author of #1 New York Times bestsellers, Christina Baker Kline has eight novels under her belt that have made her popular around the world, winning multiple awards in her field.

Without a word out of place, CS Richardson's masterclass will give your writing skills the complexity to create new universes.

The variety of genres ranging from noir, historical and fantasy are what make the versatility of the author Silvia Moreno-García a talk you should not miss.

Picking up a book by Chris Pavone is a risk! After the first 20 pages, there's no way you can put the book down until you finish it. This is the way the author immerses you in his deep thrillers.

In addition to these keynote presentations, there will be a multitude of workshops, open microphones, book signings and storytelling sessions.

As a writing portal in San Miguel, there is no way we will miss such a famous occasion and we are certain that our readers will want to be there.
