ON THE COVER with the STAR of San Miguel de Allende DON EMIGDIO LEDESMA

7 decades being part of La Alborada and the creation of stars support Don Emigdio as a living tradition that keeps alive with every breath the Spirit of La Alborada that so beautifully illuminates our nocturnal starry mantle.

He recalls that when he was a child his parents took him to contemplate the darkness of the starlit night and it was there that they taught him the positions of some stars, such as those of the Three Wise Men or the beautiful pair of the Eyes of Saint Lucia.

Perhaps it was there that the child's fascination with the stars was born, a passion that would accompany him throughout his life and that would finally take shape when he was working at Fábrica La Aurora passing through a multitude of departments.

Don Alfonso and Don Emigdio

In the past, 50 stars were made, but nowadays, to celebrate The Hundred Years of the Dawn, now 100 stars are made but what Don Emigdio is really concentrating on at the moment is presenting the allegorical float of La Parroquia; the most representative and important of all of San Miguel.

Even when he is not immersed in such a predominant task, he takes time to give workshops to all those who want to learn. He begins by disassembling a star into parts so that they can locate all its components: the staff, the drum, the rods, the fringes and the decorations in tissue paper. In the next session he takes charge of the assembly and consequently of the dress, which is equivalent to the decoration.

It also tells about the culture like the Star of “Las 7 cabrillas” where its star has 7 peaks and each of these has 7 stars respectively that represent a different goat and each one has its name and its story making this piece one of his most meaningful works.

He also stressed that although production has now increased thanks to technological advances such as new threads and types of glue, the danger remains the same since knives and sharp objects are used in their construction.

Although he has been dedicated to this work for 70 years, one of Don Emigdio's wishes is to reach 100 years of dedication to Las Estrellas de San Miguel himself and thus be able to always shine in the firmament of our history...
