BE COOL BY THE POOL: 10 of Our Favorite Downtown Hotel Pools.

Our Favorite Time Begins

Spring has come early! Although it has only just begun these days, we have been feeling the intensity of the sun and the warmth it brings for weeks now. This year is shaping up to be just as hot or hotter than 2020 (the Experts say (which unfortunately will be the case in the years to come), so we can't help but imagine ourselves relaxing next to a refreshing pool, with our favorite drinks ready to help us balance the temperature.

San Miguel is well known for having the best hotels in the center of the country, and when those hotels have amenities as attractive as a pool that is also a great photo-opportunity, they become a must to stay at the slightest provocation. Thinking about those spots from which anyone would like to be working right now (including us), we present a list of 10 hotels in the Historic Center or very close, which stand out for having an irresistible oasis among their facilities.

This is Where We Want to Be

Hoyos House

This is one of the newest concept boutique hotels in the city, whose spaces are the epitome of the perfect balance between the colonial architecture of the original construction and the avant-garde design of its interior. Its yellow mosaic interiors that predominate in the hotel and its unmistakable pink arches are very popular on Instagram and with good reason, but what few people know is that on its rooftop there is a crystal-clear pool framed by a classic pink glazed mosaic made in Dolores Hidalgo, which makes up for what it lacks in size with atmosphere and view. To top it off, you have at hand the creations of Fabiola Padilla and her bar Bekeb, recommended by The New York Times itself.

Address: Mesones 14, Center

Schuck House

With a more rustic and cozy style, this hotel takes advantage of every corner of the old property to make you feel like you are in your own country house. Since it is located on one of the many hills on which the city was founded, the view is spectacular, with its beautiful jacaranda tree standing out from any angle. The blue eye of the house is surrounded by rock and lush vegetation that give even more freshness to the atmosphere; as a tip, ask for the room that has direct access to this pool.

Address: From Gate 3, Center.

Sierra Nevada House

Refined ironwork and precious woods are the elements that stand out in this Belmond Group hotel. This residence is for those who prefer spacious and bright spaces, and to walk through each one with elegance and privacy. Arches covered in intense green frame the garden, which has as its focal point a pool of ideal size for swimming and going out to lie down for a while in one of its shaded lounge chairs. The best thing? It also has a jacuzzi for a romantic evening or chatting with friends.

Address: Hospice 35, Center.

Mrs. Magpie

Continuing with the country house vibe but in a more minimalist style, there is this hotel that is also a spa, whose main building is surrounded by a perfectly maintained garden, between the little balconies of the rooms and cobbled paths. To one side, there is the vertical pool of a fantastic turquoise blue, which ends on one side with a small jacuzzi for those looking to sit down and have a drink while they relax.

Address: Hidalgo 69, Downtown.

Feliciana Hotel

Who doesn't love strolling through the central courtyard of an old house? Among its pillars and arches, and that great gust of natural light that enters through its roof. This is what we like most about this hotel that has a beautiful fountain in the middle of its courtyard, and another space that is becoming the focus of everyday passersby is the rooftop pool, which connects very well with its Mara bar, which also has a wonderful view directly to the Parish.

Address: Nemesio Diez 10, Center.

Madi Hotel

If you're more into contemporary and sober, this is your place. We like this hotel with refined wood textures and contrasting shades of black and white for its simplicity, elegance and comfort. The pool is also located on the rooftop, and at one end it leads directly to the bar, which is a win/win; while at the other it gains depth for those who like to take a dip. Its night lighting gives it that chic touch to cool off before going out for a walk or resting.

Address: San Francisco 34, Downtown.

Hotel Matilda

Stylish and bright, this is the hotel with its modern architecture that makes good use of décor to make it a true designer hotel in each of its spaces. Imagine being in its ideally sized pool surrounded by palms and bougainvillea, with an enviable view of enormous palm trees almost the size of the building, and admiring the fantastic mural that is always created by different artists and that peeks out on one side. A true modern oasis.

Address: Aldama 53, Downtown.

Hotel Nena

Love is in the details, and that's something that this hotel has taken advantage of. With a classic style that borders on rustic, its rooms with high ceilings and wooden beams give a warm feeling that makes you want to leave. The pool here is a good size and is walled by rock from the original construction, overlooking the stairs that take you up to the rooftop where the renowned modern Mexican restaurant, La Doña de San Miguel, is located. If you're looking for privacy while you cool off, you'll like this one.

Address: San Francisco 32, Downtown.

Live Aqua SMA

There is not much that can be said about this hotel that has not already been said, as it is one of the favourites for the most demanding travellers in the world. In addition to the spectacular view of the hills, from the hotel itself and from some of its rooms, the cherry on the cake is that large and unmistakable pool with its reflecting pool and a row of hammocks that make you feel like you are in paradise in the middle of the mountains. The view is worth it all!

Address: Dam Road 85, Downtown.

The Hotel Doce 18

And speaking of San Miguel's iconic pools and swimming pools, we must mention the jewel in the crown of L'Ôtel Group with its headquarters in Dôce 18 Concept House. What makes it so special? Just take a look or, even better, step on its mesmerizing and enchanting chess mosaic, with its divine mural crowned by the parish in the background, and on the other side, its view of the large windows and the rest of the cosmopolitan terrace. Tip: ask for the suite that has direct access to the pool, you will feel like you are in a Mediterranean fantasy that will look great on your Instagram.

Address: Clock 22, Center.
