The Romería Spring 2024 A tribute to the handmade

By Marian Garcés Torres

Let's do an exercise in collective radical imagination where the task is: imagine that we are going slower.

What comes to mind? What moves you, motivates you, inspires you to keep imagining? I think of the artisanal, the handmade, challenging the laws of our usual perception of time. How long does it take to make a single tortilla? A sunflower seed? Have you thought about the time designers invest in creating your clothes? Can I interrupt you to dance a cumbión or a mash up by our star guest Acorde On?

You arrived at The Pilgrimage And we are all in the exercise of going slower, each in their own way and at their own pace. And also, in the exercise of having a great time, collectively.

Many of the vendors along the way have found/sought paths to healing, exploring plant-based eating, for example.

There are local projects, from the Sierra de Guanajuato, from the Costa Chica of Guerrero, San Luis Potosí, Brooklyn, among other latitudes that we are excited about moving towards meeting.

We are moved by the intergenerational, the risky and the commitment to doing things differently from the tired hegemonic model.

But what can I expect from La Romería if I haven't been there yet?

A small festival on the slopes of Los Picachos full of delicious music, delicious food, amazing people, unusual workshops, all cruelty-free and exploitation-free, with exclusively vegetarian or vegan products. In an openly safe environment for queer/trans/nb communities.

There will also be therapies of different kinds and many proposals from people who have been “stuck” in their field for many years/time. This makes it a kind of small open-air gallery of agroecological, art and design ideas and projects.

Each edition is unique. The next edition will be held again at the beautiful venue Lavanda Aldea Holistica, in Alcocer.

Let's celebrate spring together on March 16-17! From 11 am to 6 pm. Free admission. Pet friendly.

There will be workshops, temazcal and camping available for everyone. If you want to reserve your space to join us for the entire weekend, you can write directly to Lavanda.

For any details about the event, please contact La Romería or Lavanda Aldea Holística, it will be a pleasure to hear from you.
