San Miguel gives generously to everyone who comes from elsewhere and seeks to contribute something positive to the City, so it is no surprise that these people want to give back some of the blessings they have received from our community by investing in the most important thing we have: young people and their future.
With a very low percentage of young people completing their university studies and with exponential economic growth in the Bajío region, it doesn’t take a genius to realize that without an education, these young people will not be able to benefit from the economic spillover taking place in their geographic area.
That is why “Jóvenes Adelantes” emerged as a nonprofit civil association that seeks to support young people in completing their university studies through a comprehensive scholarship program of non-repayable grants, so that they can in turn inspire their own communities and families, creating a snowball effect in which everyone progresses together.
One success story was that of a young man from a tiny community whose dream was to study criminology, and thanks to the foundation he achieved it and now works at the District Attorney’s Office, fulfilling his greatest dream.
Thus, year after year, the foundation opens its call for applications for the 50 young people it will help that year, receiving hundreds and hundreds of applications from young people hoping to receive the financial support that will allow them to have a bright future.
However, the selection process is rigorous, as students are required to have at least a 9 out of 10 GPA, as well as a solid vision for their future and that little spark that makes a person truly stand out in life.
Initially, applicants are asked to send the Selection Committee a video in which the student talks about themselves and their future aspirations, after which they are interviewed in person by the team of interviewers and later interviewed together with their families before being selected by the Committee.
With more than 340 students graduated through the nonprofit, Jóvenes Adelante is an excellent initiative to support the future of San Miguel, Dolores Hidalgo, and Comonfort.
