BACK TO JUÁREZ PARK! The 66th edition of the Candelaria Fair begins

The Feast of Candelaria is one of the most important in the Catholic tradition, a tradition that different municipalities in Spain, Mexico and Latin America have adopted in their own very particular ways. But without going too far, the people of San Miguel have our own tradition to commemorate the presentation of Jesus in the temple and of course, the Virgin of Candelaria, who after the Virgin of Guadalupe is the Marian figure with the greatest devotion in Mexico. In addition, it is a date that we eaters enjoy a lot because there is guaranteed tamale!

Here, this festival, originally known as “the festival of flowers,” has been celebrated for more than 100 years. It is said that initially plants and flowers were exchanged in temples and streets, until it became what we know in recent years as the Feria de la Candelaria. To recover this tradition, the municipal government of San Miguel de Allende is promoting the 66th edition with various activities that will return to its original location: Juárez Park.

With the emblematic exhibition and sale of flowers and a cultural programme to liven things up, one of the most iconic local customs is being revived. The vigil, the blessing of the seeds, the dance of the concheros and other important moments of the tradition will be part of the activities.

From January 28 to February 11, you can visit the fair again in one of the most beautiful spaces in the city. We already saw ourselves taking a walk and discovering everything that locals, producers and participants from all over Mexico have prepared in Parque Juárez, a great plan to start the month of February!
