THE NEW MEXICAN SOUNDS Celebrate the patriotic month with local music

As Mexicans, September is marked in our “genetic calendars” as the month of celebrations, of family meals and dinners full of snacks and typical dishes, of parties with tequila, mezcal and whatever else comes our way, of the pride that comes with having been born in a country so vast in culture, nature and personality.

One nation, many expressions

As a nation, our cultural identity has been shaped by our gastronomy, our traditions, our crafts and our art in its different expressions: music, painting, cinema and more. And although all of this has been the banner that has represented us to the world, there is always much more happening and expanding the concept of Mexican culture, beyond the sombrero, the zarape and the mariachis, with which we are pigeonholed abroad.

That said, and focusing specifically on music, there is an effervescent scene of new or little-known artists that is redefining the sound of Mexican music, which at some point was limited to iconic voices like Luis Miguel or Natalia Lafourcade in recent years; and more than redefining Mexican music, they are precisely breaking those molds to simply be music in its different styles that can connect with anyone regardless of cultural or language barriers.

A very special playlist

At Local SMA Guide we want to recognize those bands and singers who are making the world's ears refocus on what is happening in Mexico. That's why we created a commemorative playlist with what we call "the new Mexican sounds," so that together we can celebrate this month with innovative proposals that make us realize the enormous talent we have in our country and that we should support and spread with pride.

Press play! And tell us who else you would include on the list.
