The discomfort many girls feel upon reaching puberty is palpable and causes them great grief, leading them to extremes such as lowering their self-esteem or even dropping out of school.
There are approximately 80% girls who are not well prepared for the arrival of their menstrual cycle due to problems inherent to Mexico's sexist society, which portrays this natural, life-giving cycle as something dirty and that should be hidden.

This is devastating for young women in many rural communities, who have never even seen a textbook about their menstrual cycle, so when it arrives they don't know what to expect, how to manage it, and are unable to access essential sanitary supplies.
It is because of this problem that the project supported by the Rotary Club of San Miguel has arrived to empower girls and has so far reached more than 2,500 girls in the country and in Costa Rica.

Knowing what happens to their bodies and seeing it as an opportunity for empowerment is wonderful for them. Upon completing several stages of the program, they receive a sustainable kit from Days for Girls, a non-profit organization, with wonderful products.
The kit consists of washable and reusable products that last up to 3-4 years, minimizing the financial burden on young people and eliminating the environmental pollution that accumulates month after month.

Likewise, 10 young women have already graduated to date with 40 online hours and 100 in-person hours to teach these workshops throughout San Miguel and Mexico, so the domino effect will grow to significant proportions.
But to continue growing, we need the help of the esteemed reader and your donation since the investment for each girl who goes through the program consists of 47USD which they can make in www.rotarysmamidday.org

It's time to help young women in Mexico have a bright future where they'll never again have to be ashamed of this magical and natural process.
