TEDx San Miguel: Threshold of the Future

By Pamela Fink

With the popularization of Artificial Intelligence, now more than ever the possibilities of the future are intertwined with the everyday reality of the present, becoming a threshold that we all must inevitably cross, and it is precisely on this transition that the new talks from TEDX San Miguel will focus.

After a pause of several years, this format returns to our city stronger and more purposeful than ever, with a Re-evolved theme that concerns everyone who wants to use these tools to our advantage and make this quantum leap in harmony, one that touches the inhabitants of this world.

The conversation returns to our land, and it is through this popular format that we are invited to become aware of what we leave behind, what is coming with us, and what is crying out to be born.

As a media partner, Local Guide has the responsibility of introducing the incredible speakers who will gather this Saturday, October 24, at Hacienda la Casona, in a program that will begin at 10 in the morning and conclude at approximately 5 in the afternoon.

Under the premise that “an idea from another field can change the way you see your own,” the board of directors and the selection committee chose the fascinating speakers for this edition, among whom the following stand out:

Sofía de la Mora Tostado, who is an engineer in Artificial Intelligence and founder of Intelital, where she develops AI systems that help organizations make highly complex decisions. Sofía’s academic background is impressive, with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Political Science from ITAM, followed by a master’s degree in Data from Columbia University.

Her work is thus centered at the intersection of mathematics, power, artificial intelligence, and human behavior, studies that have earned her several honors  such as the Sotero Prieto Prize in Mathematics.

Today she explores the consequences of AI and how human judgment and autonomy are affected as we become more dependent on technology.

Mimi Gendreau Kigawa will be another of the speakers who greatly excites us thanks to her work, through which a new model of pulmonary care is being developed that combines AI with virtual rehabilitation, breaking the boundaries of what was believed possible in caring for people living with this type of chronic respiratory illness.

After her time at Harvard, Mimi co-created TINA, a bioremediation platform that uses bacteria to extract heavy metals from polluted rivers  so they can be reused in lithium-ion batteries, which earned her Fast Company’s Linda Tischler Award.

Likewise, Mimi’s vibrant work led her to create Zia, a menstrual diagnostic platform for the early detection of cervical cancer in women in rural areas of Mexico, allowing us to see the common thread in Mimi’s projects: the use of technology to help both human health and the environment.

Manuel Rosemberg’s work also makes us excited about his participation as a Speaker at Threshold of the Future, as he is the CEO and Co-founder of ANA Care, a platform that uses Artificial Intelligence and seeks to strengthen, train, and support those who provide care at home.

Thanks to his studies at Columbia University and MIT, and to his steadfast initiative, he has been distinguished with the title of Social Entrepreneur of the Year, which only further drives his outstanding community work.

It was thanks to his personal experience caring for several members of his family that Rosemberg was able to recognize this need to strengthen caregiving through technology without losing the warmth and authenticity that make us deeply human.

Other Speakers who greatly excite us are Vena2 (Luis Díaz Gordoa) with his ancestral art, Araceli Kopilof and her community building, happiness coach Joseph Bennett, Pilar de Reyes and classical Chinese medicine, Donnie Masterton’s exquisite culinary experience, Ben Ptashnik’s environmental advocacy, Marco Debrayes’ contemporary mojigangas, the art of Lady Zen, chiropractor Ethan Feldman, coffee expert Christian Zaid, and the multidisciplinary art of Annika Rhea.

We invite our readers to immerse themselves in the possibilities of the future, where surely, after listening to such varied speakers, they will return home with an interesting reflection—or who knows, perhaps a seed that will germinate into a new way of life.
