On The Cover with Kate Van Doren

When a healing voice resonates and its echo takes shape through different channels, such as the powerful work of Kate Van Doren and her project The Healing Words Project.

For the artist, the power of words has an immense reverberation and is capable of changing our brains, bodies, hearts, and souls, which is why she has decided to focus on the positive side of words in the healing process.

According to Kate, we all have a personal mantra that we tend to recite to ourselves, sometimes on an unconscious level, to get through life’s toughest moments.

Her mission is to accompany the women in her portraits on a journey of exploration and discovery until they themselves arrive at that personal healing mantra.

Through compassionate communication, Kate is able to glimpse other kinds of visual and physical elements that have been present throughout the women’s healing processes and capture them in her work, whether it be a family portrait or memories of that beloved place from a journey to which one can never return.

Also an Art Therapist with more than 25 years of experience, she never stops learning from wonderful women or helping those who need a little artistic guidance on this journey called life.

It was thanks to her stay in San Miguel that Kate returned to her art alongside therapy, since it was in the context of the “A Day Without Women” protest that everything that followed in her success began.

And it is thanks to this empathetic painting accompaniment that the artist is about to hold an exhibition at the Museo de Arte de Querétaro starting on March 6.

But beyond an exhibition where you can attend and acquire portraits of faceless models, Kate emphasized here that her subjects must be remembered through their faces, their souls, and their story.
