Museum Night in San Miguel

The title is a lie, but the film reference sounded good to celebrate International Museum Day with a brief account of the sanctuaries that honor art and bring the past to the present, making it relevant by inviting the audience to reflect.

Mask Museum

The word persona comes from the Latin word meaning mask and that is what all humans are, a continuation of masks before society that never allows us to reveal our true selves, but what happens when we put on a mask and see through someone else's eyes? Can we then be authentic?

This is an interesting concept with which to enter the Mask Museum where more than 600 masks are displayed after having been collected from many indigenous peoples. While traveling, the American publicist Bill Levas had the magnificent idea of starting to collect them and this is how we can see these magnificent surrealist pieces that still preserve the spirit of the dancers who wore them for their ritual dances.

Allende Museum

The place where the hero of Independence, Generalissimo Ignacio Allende, was born and lived is an elegant, imposing mansion dating back to 1764, which was a wedding gift from Nacho's father to his mother. Today it is a museum that houses an important part of the history of the founding of the town of San Miguel el Grande.

Canal House Museum

With a construction that dates back to the late 18th century, this magnificent architectural space was built by the descendants of Don Manuel de la Canal, constructing a stately mansion that is considered the most important civil architectural monument in San Miguel. A symbol of elegance, good proportion and good taste make up what is currently the Banamex Cultural Center.

Toy Museum

A magical place full of playful handcrafted objects that, just by looking at them, we can almost hear the laughter of the children of yesteryear who were made happy by delighting them with long hours of play. This museum has more than 3,500 original pieces that express the creativity and good humor characteristic of Mexicans who never stop being children.
