Welcome to our first edition of the year! We're back with Local Soundtrack, This is the corner dedicated to honoring the artists who define the sonic pulse of San Miguel de Allende. In a city with such a vast musical offering, standing out requires something special, and today we present Media Luna: the guitar duo that transforms any stage into an electric experience.
Comprised of brothers Caleb and Jair Cabrera, Media Luna is proof that opposites not only attract, but harmonize perfectly. Originally from Pachuca, fate (and good taste) brought them to the cobblestone streets of San Miguel, a city that immediately embraced them after being captivated by their vision.
Their story began at home. Thanks to parents who devoured musical genres without prejudice, the brothers grew up surrounded by instruments and, most importantly, with the freedom to follow their own instincts.
Although they share the same DNA, their musical approach is the "yin and yang" of the guitar:
Caleb is the reflective and romantic side. His style is an acoustic caress influenced by nostalgia. «"How can I not be sensitive if my dad always listened to Camilo Sesto or Emmanuel?", she confesses with a smile.
Jair (or "Jay") is pure kinetic energy and rock 'n' roll spirit. His curiosity is such that last year he decided to take his passion to the workshop and build his own guitar.
«"On this path I have destroyed many guitars and jaranas 'for the good of science',", Jair jokes. «"For a Telecaster I looked for an unusual pairing: a Benedetto A6 Jazz pickup and a The Chopper T. They are two different worlds that, together, gave me the exact balance that my sound needed.".
Media Luna's music is an instrumental journey through blues, flamenco, jazz, and rock, sometimes enhanced by the collaboration of the talented David Mendoza. If you want to experience their energy, you can often find them at the hotspots of the local scene: Centanni, Paprika, or Silveyras.
