It's a pleasure to meet you again in this space dedicated to the artists of San Miguel de Allende. We present the 26th edition of our "Local Soundtrack" section, a welcoming space to chat with musicians and learn their perspectives on the San Miguel music scene.

On this occasion, we had the honor of speaking with Magda Macle, a Cuban artist whose Latin rhythm runs through her veins, and whose every performance is a journey of color, sound, and flavor.

From childhood, Magda was immersed in Latin music. The influence of her paternal family, originally from the Cuban countryside (the "guajiros," as they are known in Mexico), profoundly influenced her musical development.

"I always wanted to dedicate myself to music. Music is my life, not just when I'm on stage, but in every aspect of my life," Magda revealed.

Two years ago, fate brought Magda to San Miguel de Allende, where she has infected everyone with her joy and rhythm.

"The first time I visited San Miguel de Allende, I thought, 'Someday I'll live here.' Life moved on, and the time came for the empty nest, when my daughter finished college and set out on her own. Then, I felt it was my time to fly. First, I went to Switzerland, and then I arrived in San Miguel.", he recounted.

Magda says she had to leave Cuba in search of a better future for her daughters. Each place she's lived has left its mark on her music, enriching her unique sound.

"Music has saved me on many occasions. It's always been a balm, a lifeline. Thanks to music, I managed to get my daughters out of Cuba... for me, music is everything."

Magda's family is present in her music. She fondly remembers family gatherings, the "guateques," where each cousin would grab an instrument and start a party.

Later, she was nourished by the music of lyrical singing and by great women of Cuban and Latin American music, such as Elena Burke, Omara Portuondo, Mercedes Sosa, and Liliana Herrero.

Magda is a passionate performer who, beyond genres, loves singing songs that convey emotions to her.

"At Café Rama, I collaborate on the Son de Monte project, where we play Cuban music with Latin jazz influences. Everything is very spontaneous. We align the dynamics according to the audience, and each performance is unique. Sometimes I surprise myself with the results."

Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy Magda's live performances. Every Tuesday, she performs alongside Víctor Monterrubio at Café Rama at 7:00 pm.

We appreciate your reading and hope you enjoy this interview as much as we enjoyed making it.Local Soundtrack"We'll continue exploring and sharing the stories of the artists who fill this city with music and life. See you next time!"
