Welcome to the fifth issue of Local Soundtrack, where we will fill your playlist with artists from the local scene. We will talk to all those bands, soloists, trios, and duos that bring life to the streets, terraces, and events of the city.
San Miguel de Allende is characterized by being a warm place with open doors for everyone regardless of their nationality and many have adopted this beautiful Heritage City as a home, such is the case of Stephyloren, a Colombian artist who came to Mexico to look for opportunities, her first stop was in Mexico City for a modeling contest, from there she left for TorreĂłn to knock on doors, then LeĂłn, Guanajuato and ended up in San Miguel de Allende in 2016.
Stephyloren is a very curious girl who has turned music into a personal challenge. She really wants to take on the world and understands perfectly well that it is a difficult path, but the important thing is to find herself and music has that magic to make people connect.
In these six years living in San Miguel, she has learned and tried different styles of living art and it was in 2020 that she started her project as a soloist. Stephyloren boasts that she learned piano on YouTube and guitar during the pandemic, taking advantage of that new knowledge she experimented by releasing weekly songs to find her essence, in the end she released the first singles from her debut album titled "BrĂşjula" which will be released in September 2022.
The goal of “Brújula” is that everyone who listens to the album can find that song that they connect with, that tells their story, whether it be one of love, hope, heartbreak… a little bit of everything.
What does Stephyloren sound like?
Their music is alternative pop, breaking away from the stereotypes of their roots. A sonic journey imbued with lyrics with hints of love, poetry and melodrama.
Her style is based on English pop with inspirations such as Ed Sheeran, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston; in Spanish with Kany GarcĂa, Alejandro Sanz and Pablo Alborán.
Additionally, as a curious fact about her influences, her name is inspired by the singer Gloria Estefan.
“There is a little stigma because when you are African-American they always assume you are a rapper, so when I say I play pop or ballads they act surprised.”
On July 28th, he will have some performances in Mexico City and in October at a singer-songwriter festival in Acámbaro. At the moment, he does not have any upcoming performances in San Miguel de Allende, but he is knocking on doors to continue delighting the people of San Miguel and visitors to this beautiful World Heritage City with his music.
Occasionally he gets on public transport to share his music, as he says it is a great school because it requires a lot of courage, because sometimes it means putting up with the temper of some people, but if someone had a bad day, the magic of music can change and lift their spirits.
Thank you for joining us in this fifth publication of Local Soundtrack, we thank Stephyloren for her time and for touching hearts with her music, follow her on all her social networks: Facebook and Instagram so you don't lose sight of her and find out about her upcoming projects. See you next month!
