There are places you visit, and then there are places that stay with you.
Just 25 minutes from San Miguel de Allende, on the road to Atotonilco, lies one of those rare corners that seem to exist outside of time. Ranchito Cascabel, known by many as Timmyland, is much more than an architectural park: it is an invitation to wander without hurry, lose yourself among surreal forms, and let your imagination take over.
Inspired by the work of Antoni Gaudí, as well as iconic spaces such as Xilitla, the Nido de Quetzalcóatl, and Parque Güell, the project began more than two decades ago as the personal dream of Tim Sullivan, who transformed a family property into a universe of monumental sculptures, winding pathways, and architecture in dialogue with nature.
Two Experiences, One Destination
Our visit began at the Rancho Jaguar Museum of Popular Art, a private collection belonging to American art collector Jennifer Haas.
After studying painting at the Art Students League of New York, Jennifer began collecting pieces during her travels throughout Mexico, visiting markets and auctions and accepting donations that would eventually become part of a collection filled with history, color, and the traditions of Mexican folk art. The museum offers an intimate journey through decades of exploration and admiration for this vibrant artistic heritage.
A Journey Told by an Artist
Then came the time to explore Ranchito Cascabel.
Our guide was Irma, an artist and host of the project who, beyond sharing the story of the place, helped us discover the small details that might otherwise go unnoticed: figures hidden among the vegetation, architectural references, and the vision that brought this extraordinary space to life.
Walking alongside someone who knows every corner completely transforms the experience.
So Much More Than a Tour
Our visit coincided with sunset.
We were welcomed with a glass of regional wine and a board of cheeses and charcuterie as the setting sun began to transform the colors of the landscape. As night fell, we understood why staying the night is well worth it.
The sculptures seem to take on an entirely different personality under the evening lights and, far from the city, the sky fills with stars in a way that is rarely seen in San Miguel.
One of our favorite moments was unwinding in the sauna, an unexpected experience that ultimately transformed our visit into a true escape from the rhythm of everyday life.
The following morning, a delicious breakfast provided the perfect ending to an experience best enjoyed without rushing.
And yes… Mango joined us throughout the entire adventure, because Ranchito Cascabel is also pet-friendly.
Experiences to Return to Again and Again
Beyond its traditional tours of the park and museum, Ranchito Cascabel has created a series of special experiences that make every visit feel different.
Among them, you’ll find:
A Setting for Celebrations
The magic of Ranchito Cascabel can also become the backdrop for life’s special moments.
The property is available for weddings, concerts, festivals, workshops, retreats, photo sessions, private experiences, and corporate events, with spaces that can accommodate everything from intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations.
Hidden Places Tip
Stay for the night.
The property is fascinating during the day, but once the sun sets and the sky fills with stars, Ranchito Cascabel reveals an entirely different personality. That is when you understand that this is not simply a place to visit…
It is a place to experience.
