ON THE COVER: Toño Rayas and the voice of San Miguel de Allende

Being a descendant of the founding family of our beloved bakery La Colmena, it is safe to say that Tony Rayas He carries the voice of San Miguel de Allende from several generations to the present, which has given him a deep love and respect for the multiple voices of the San Miguel residents who profess such a variety.

EN PORTADA Toño Rayas San Miguel de Allende

His knowledge has led him to take on two projects that inform the public with two very different but complementary tones: First, he works on the local evening newscast where he tries to bring out his more serious and formal side by informing the audience about current news in a timely and objective manner.

On the other hand, he is part of the magazine “Aquí entre nos” where his more relaxed and fun side comes into play with current topics that promote the San Miguel identity. Which of these two is the real Toño?

The answer is simple: both at the same time. For him, his daily and generational experiences have shaped him, making him respect each local voice excessively and always willing to listen to them and learn from them.

And for his own voice, he performs reading exercises, voice projection and arduous research to be able to speak to the audience with knowledge of the subject. It seems that dedication is an attribute that Toño has had since birth.

It is no coincidence that La Colmena bakery has been in operation for over 100 years, as it takes a certain amount of empathy to understand what diners want. Another particularity of the bakery is that not only the founders have been there since the beginning, but also the same family of bakers has been in business over the years.

Taking care of the artisanal production process, preserving traditional techniques, resting and baking are basic steps to obtain high-quality breads, always taking care of the most important ingredient of all: The utmost love that is put into the creation of La Colmena, which will surely be standing for a new century.

For him, the voice of San Miguel and La Colmena is impossible to describe using a list of adjectives because it is made up of thousands of voices. Thousands of San Miguel residents who have passed through La Colmena have something different to say, an individual nuance and a unique way of thinking. Thus, summarizing all these voices is something that goes beyond the scope of this article and possibly of an entire encyclopedia.

San Miguel shines for its plurality of voices, but what they all seem to agree on is that they fondly remember the experiences they live day to day and have enjoyed in La Colmena.
