ON THE COVER: TAL FISHER A styling guru who found inspiration in SMA

When a person is very concerned about their personal image, they can be labeled as vain and even self-centered, and although there may be some of that, the reality is that how we see ourselves, or at least the idea of how we see ourselves in the world, greatly influences how we feel. Good self-esteem is important to give our best every day, and if wanting to improve our image is part of it, go ahead.

If there is someone who knows about image and style, it is Tal Fisher, a professional hairstylist originally from Canada, who found in SMA a source of inspiration to create the most spectacular looks, for special occasions or simply to look your best in the routine.

The protagonist of LOCAL December 2021

We had the chance to exchange a few questions with Tal to learn more about his background as a proud Vidal Sassoon graduate, and how that opened the doors for him to grow, win competitions, and establish his own salon and brand in Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende. Read the interview below.

LOCAL: You have a well-established career as a professional stylist. How was your experience studying at Vidal Sassoon?

My experience at Vidal Sassoon was like being at Harvard. I felt like I was in the best place to learn my profession.

LOCAL: As the first Canadian to win major recognitions such as the Wella Trend Vision Award, how would you describe your creative vision and what inspires you?

My creative vision definitely comes from traveling to different parts of the world and observing people.

LOCAL: What year did you start your first salon and how has the 'journey' been so far?

That's a tough question because I remember my mom taking me to the salon when I was 10, and that's where it all started.

LOCAL: How do you see styling in Mexico compared to other countries you've been to, like your native Canada?

People around the world would be surprised to know how advanced Mexico is when it comes to fashion and style.

LOCAL: Do you think that Mexicans are becoming more and more open to experimenting with our image?

I see that Mexicans in general are very open and willing to try the latest trends!

LOCAL: What are your favorite places to visit in the city, the ones you always go to when you are here?

I love going to terraces or rooftops to find a good view of San Miguel, but some of my favorite spots are Bekeb, Atrio, Quince and Rosewood.

We are very grateful to Tal for all the facilities for this edition of LOCAL. Learn more about his work by following him on Instagram as @talhairsma, and check their schedule ahead of time because it is usually very busy!
