«The archaeological zone of Cañada de La Virgen, which is 34 minutes from the center of San Miguel, is an area of 16 hectares that has several complexes with pyramidal structures and patios where rituals and healings were performed. These constructions are attributed to the Otomi and it is said that several tribes came to visit from various tribes such as the Mayans. It is a place with a lot of energy. Recent studies indicate that the society that inhabited Cañada de la Virgen had very advanced astronomical knowledge, which facilitated the control of time and productive cycles. It is also estimated that it was ruled by the Moon, the Sun and Venus. This place was "The House of the 13 Heavens" and was conceived as a lunar clock to establish hunting and gathering periods.
The Cañada de la Virgen archaeological site was privately donated to the INAH in 2000. In addition, Cañada de la Virgen has subjected the management of its land to rigorous inspection each year by the Italian organic certification organization, “BioAgricert”, and the entire property has been certified organic since 2009.
You can arrive by car and leave with a guide who will explain the history of this magical place. On the way back, you can eat delicious Pre-Hispanic food at the Pre-Hispanic Astronomy Museum.
