WARM UP YOUR CINEMATIC ENGINES BECAUSE THE GIFF IS HERE

With just a few days to go before the 25th anniversary of the Guanajuato International Film Festival, inaugurated for the first time in San Miguel de Allende thanks to the initiative of Sarah Hoch, who we will soon have on Local Talks, we recommend some important feature films for our great and unique festival.

NIGHT OF FIRE

Directed by Tatiana Huezo

The transition from childhood to adolescence of three friends will be contaminated by the violence of an isolated village in the mountains surrounded by poppy fields. Tenderness and magic are contrasted by reality in this game of contrasts in Huezo's most recent feature film.

ED WOOD

Dir. Tim Burton

It was difficult to select a representative film from the long filmography of Tim Burton, who was honored in 2007 by the festival, but in the end we selected the film inspired by the Hollywood cult director Ed Wood and his fascinating vision for creating fantastic worlds that undoubtedly managed to make Burton himself feel identified.

LOVE DOGS

Director Alejandro González Iñárritu

The film with three intertwined stories co-written by the great Guillermo Arriaga remains relevant as it deals with such universal themes as love and betrayal. Lightly reminiscent of the story of “East of Eden,” the film caused a stir after its premiere at GIFF and worldwide, elevating the narrative of Mexican cinema.

WITHOUT PARTICULAR SIGNS

Directed by Fernanda Valadez and Astrid Romero

After winning the #GIFF2011 short film “De este mundo,” Fernanda Valadez went on to direct her first feature film, which is about the violence that Mexican immigrants suffer when crossing the border into the United States, often with disastrous results.

THE INCIDENT

Dir. Isaac Ezbán

After winning financial support for his script at Giff 2013, Isaac's script for “The Incident” was released in theaters, popularizing the director's vision. The film plays with space-time and shows that it is possible to write intelligent science fiction pieces in Mexico.

With only a few days to go before the official programme for this edition is revealed, we can only wait with excitement on the edge of our seats.

Check the venues in Irapuato, San Miguel de Allende and León from July 22-31 and their schedule at Giff.mx
