From the Chinese food that characterizes “la Baja” to the Korean delicacies that can be tried in the Zona Rosa of CDMX, passing through the controversial “suchi” of Culiacán, Asian gastronomy found in Mexico a fertile ground not only to add fans but also to merge with local ingredients and flavors to give life to vibrant and innovative dishes.
In San Miguel we have more and more Asian restaurants on offer, for all tastes and budgets, but there are definitely a couple that have won us over and that we could go to every week. Thai, Japanese and reinterpretations by their chefs inspired by the culinary legacy of the entire continent, we can assure you that in these 5 spots you will try the best Asian food in the city.
Kuyin Asian Eatery
When Chef Marcela Bolaño began to incorporate Asian dishes into the menu of Marsala – her first restaurant in SMA – she knew it was time to embark on a new adventure to express her passion for Asian flavors. This is how Kǒuyīn was born, a restaurant that takes up the cuisine of different countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, China, South Korea and Japan. An authentic Asian eatery that breaks away from the cliché of what we usually find in Asian cuisine in the state and throughout Mexico.
Orquidea Thai Restaurant
Thai, Thai, Thai. Here you can find classic Thai dishes, such as a good pad thai or a red curry for the more adventurous. The portions are considerable so if you are hungry this is the ideal place to satisfy your hunger. There are also veggie and vegan options so there is no excuse not to try their traditional flavours.
Oko Noodle Bar
Alhondiga Square, Local 1F, La Lejona
A nice space full of color from its walls to the Thai and Vietnamese dishes they prepare. As a starter, fried sweet potatoes in the center or ginger soup, and from there you can continue with their variety of noodles, pad thai and curries; or they also have healthy options like chicken tacos in lettuce leaves. If you like the balance of good flavor at a reasonable price and with good service, you definitely have to stop by here.
Ryoko
A very versatile and intimate Japanese place with adequate spaces depending on whether you go alone or with someone. Although good sushi is particularly difficult to find in the center of the country (for obvious reasons), we can say that this restaurant is just as good as other restaurants closer to the coast. Fresh and with traditional dishes prepared with local ingredients. Of course, the portions are not as large but the flavor makes up for it.
Spice Market at Live Aqua
Inspired by the spicy and hot dishes of India, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Japan, this beautiful and warm space has a very complete menu that will transport you directly to those Asian countries. The flavors of its cuisine are impeccable, as well as the presentation of the dishes and not to mention the atmosphere and interior design. Perhaps the fanciest option on our list but totally worth checking out.
Xamxam
Variety has arrived at SMA! This relatively new restaurant offers a very diverse menu that includes starters such as Vietnamese rolls with Laab Gai chicken, noodles such as spicy miso ramen, wonton soup, dumplings and a curry tasting for 2 or 4 people, and several other little gems. With a very rustic and international aesthetic, it is a very proactive space for lunch or dinner. Beware, they now have Taco Tuesdays in collaboration with Cervecería Hércules and you can find them on Uber Eats.
