ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE MARKET The 5 essential markets to know SMA

We live in the era of technology and the virtual world, where markets carry with them the prefix 'super' and refer to a place where products can be purchased. But the concept is not limited to a plaza but to a point of convergence that gives rise to an experience in every sense: the colors, the aromas, the textures, the people; this accumulation of stimuli is what makes Mexican markets, from those in the smallest town to those in the big cities, so attractive and unique.

In San Miguel de Allende we have all kinds of markets and tianguis, some older than others, but all with the same function of gathering all kinds of people, to do their shopping, to eat, or simply to browse and get to know the local culture. That's why today we list the 5 markets that you have to visit to discover the essence of the town.

Craft market

Why visit? Because of its tradition, and because it is just a few blocks from the Garden, here you will find even what you were not looking for: from household basics to flowers, pots, accessories, textiles and many many souvenirs, highlighting of course the local wool and brass crafts made in the region.

Location: Lucas Balderas S/N, Center

Ignacio Ramirez Market

Why visit? Those who frequent this market do so especially to try the local food and snacks; no matter if it is for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you will always find a new stall to try. In addition, you can also find the typical crafts and artisanal products such as leather shoes. As for food, fruits, vegetables and cheeses, even the big hotels buy here. It is also a must-see where restaurants, hotels and wedding planners find all kinds of flowers for their creations and events; if you are looking for some, this is your market.

Location: Calle Colegio S/N, Center.

Market of Saint John of God

Why visit? Like the other two markets, you can find almost everything here, but you'll like it if you're looking for something delicious, homemade and affordable to eat. This is where locals come for their groceries: fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy products from the region. You can also find clothes and shoes at very good prices, hairdressers and a professional tattoo studio by the famous Rubén Martínez.

Location: San Rafael 7, Center.

“Tuesday” Market

Why visit? Every Tuesday is “Martes de placita” (little square Tuesday) in Arcos de San Miguel. As you probably know, the difference between a market and a tianguis is just a formality, because although the former is established in a permanent building, the tianguis has an ephemeral essence, and is set up only on certain days of the week. Here there is a lot of food like tacos, menudo, garnacha and even cecina, chorizo and cheeses to take home. Household items and everything you need to keep your pantry full. And of course, how can we not mention its famous “paca” (a kind of market), where you can find various jewels, even from designer brands.

Location: Arches of San Miguel.

Healthy Market

Why visit? This is paradise and salvation for vegetarians and vegans. Here you can find organic, gluten-free and healthy products that are ideal and necessary if you have a more careful diet or if you want to start. There are baked goods, essentials for the home and locally produced, bulk seeds and also personal care products made by hand and with natural ingredients.

Location: San Antonio Wide, San Antonio
