Who doesn't like to watch it rain? Probably one of the most relaxing experiences, so much so that there are countless apps and videos that show and expose this natural phenomenon as a moment to calm us down and focus on the present, to help us fall asleep or simply as a kind of natural "white noise" that reminds us of nostalgia and provokes states of reflection and introspection. Of course, all this when we are sheltered at home or somewhere, because when it rains on us in the street, nobody finds it so nice.
Rain puts us in a very special mood, one in which inspiration and creativity are often awakened, so it is not surprising that great poets, singer-songwriters, painters and other artists give free rein to their imagination under the effect of these clouds disintegrating before our senses. It is the beginning of summer and in San Miguel de Allende it is already felt, because the city also has an even more romantic vibe with these cloudy skies and wet streets that reveal some nature between their cobblestones. We love San Miguel in the rain!
Today we want to review the coffee shops that inspire us the most to spend some time there, whether it be reading alone or with good company, with a coffee or hot chocolate, perhaps with some dessert or a piece of bread to sweeten those moments and feel comforted in the fresh air of the rain. Which of these is your favorite?
The Café of La Mancha
We start with El Café de la Mancha. In the Guadalupe neighborhood, there is this cozy and small space that is a paradise for coffee connoisseurs and lovers. At its bar you can find different extraction methods for your favorite coffee, as well as some infusions such as yerba mate, black tea, green tea and more, in case you are not such a fan of caffeine; and to accompany it, a cinnamon roll, some scone or homemade cookies that you will love.
Geek & Coffee
Inside the unmistakable Fábrica La Aurora is Geek & Coffee, a perfect place to enjoy the rain because it has a great space in contact with the outside, connected to a large garden that children and pets can use to play. We like its country house vibe for having a coffee and chatting with friends, or simply putting on our headphones and listening to our favorite bands while the sky does its thing.
Umaran Coffee
Right in the center is this little place that has an incredible variety of sweet bread, from the typical concha to the cuernito, including chocolatines and everything that we Mexicans love. The tables that are in the windows that face the street are our favorites to watch the rain fall and reflect on everything that brought us to this present moment, while we blow on our coffee or tea and enjoy the weather. Discover it, it is also very new and you will like it.
Cumpanio
Cumpanio is an undisputed favourite when it comes to breakfast, but also for a simple cup of coffee with one of their breads that are a must on San Miguel. If you are lucky, you can find one of the tables that face the windows towards the street and be able to appreciate the summer rains with that homely warmth that a coffee or tea gives you, very well accompanied by one of the delicacies of the house.
Rama Coffee
Are you walking your dog in the city centre and suddenly it starts to rain? Don't worry, you can always take refuge in this lovely place which, in addition to being practically new and having a delicious menu, has everything you need to kill time or to have a date with that special someone or your friends and catch up. There is room for everyone here and it also has a little patio that gives it that homely and peaceful touch that will come in handy with a coffee in hand.
Allende's Waffle Shop
Just a few blocks from Café Rama is our favorite place when we have a craving for something sweet, because that craving almost always comes in the form of churros and waffles, and a cup of hot chocolate. This place, besides being very cute, has that vibe that makes you feel good and at ease at your table, knowing that nothing will alter the moment and best of all, that you are about to enjoy some waffles or churros with ice cream to pamper yourself as you deserve.
Ki'bok Coffee
Good energy and the smell of coffee everywhere. On the corner of Diez de Sollano and Dávalos 25, you will find this beautiful space with rustic decoration that also has a very comfortable terrace to enjoy morning coffee and the view of the Center. They have the best methods for extracting coffee and some snacks for breakfast: fruit, eggs, bread, fresh juices and everything you need to be in a good mood during the day.
