Soria, lost in time.
Just 30 minutes from San Miguel, lies the historic and charming town of Soria, part of the municipality of Comonfort. Its history is that of many small towns not only in Guanajuato but throughout Mexico: a Spaniard who came to establish his business on a trade route and, thanks to the prosperity, built more and more to provide shelter for employees and workers.
What began as a farm called “El Molino” was transformed into Soria when weaving machines were installed and the “La Providencia” blanket factory was founded by Eusebio González, who together with Don Lucas Alamán in Celaya, was founding a new textile center in Soria in the Bajío. Here you can read a little more about its history.
First organic artisanal market
Soria is one of those places lost in time that you get to by getting a little lost. Its charm lies in its tranquility and the warmth of its few inhabitants, who have now prepared Madeleine, the first organic market in Soria, organized by Nicholas Martel of Soria Alive and Ismael Morales of Handmade clothing Soria.
What can you find in Madeleine? More than 30 exhibitors will offer you a bit of everything: textiles, organic fruits, vegetables, personal hygiene products, food, typical desserts and much more. This is a great plan to discover what there is beyond San Miguel, do your shopping while supporting local producers and rediscover Guanajuato.
The event is on Sunday, July 4th at Eusebio González 17, from 9 am to 3 pm. Admission is free! See you there.
