BREAK THE ROUTINE: Cultural and entertaining activities in SMA

In life we never stop learning, either because we decide to or because we simply experience things that lead us to broaden our vision and our understanding of what surrounds us and of ourselves. However, when we make the decision to learn something new, such as an unknown language or even embark on a new career, that knowledge and that learning are more enjoyable.

The fact that we are more connected than ever since the pandemic has opened the doors to a whole ecosystem of content on the Internet that was already there or was created due to the conditions we are going through: tutorials, courses, workshops, talks, even large conferences of all kinds, just a click away. Now, little by little, face-to-face activities are beginning to recover, of course, with all the safety and health measures, so today we want to tell you about some spaces that you can already visit to learn and break the routine of the week with something that entertains you and feeds your curiosity!

Hermes Arroyo's mojiganga workshops

You've seen them, you recognize them, and maybe you even have photos with them... These papier-mâché giants are undeniable icons of San Miguel de Allende, which were previously seen more thanks to the street parties but which are still there, very present, waiting for the day when they can once again dance and celebrate in the streets.

And if there is someone who immediately comes to mind when we talk about mojigangas, it is Hermes Arroyo, a master craftsman with an impressive 35-year tradition and career in the creation of these festive figures, masks, skulls and more. It is worth stopping by his store in San Francisco 62, Downtown, to find out about the figures she has for sale, or also write to her directly on Instagram or Facebook to ask about her workshops or personalized classes to learn this incredible technique.

Learn how to make your own jewelry with Azure

This Mexican design brand has been around for 16 years since it was founded by Carlos and Cynthia Rendón, starting from a line of contemporary handmade jewelry that printed everything that inspired and motivated them at that time. After a decade and several more lines and collections, Azure is synonymous with well-made national design that we can acquire online or in their showrooms in San Miguel de Allende (Channel 21, Center) and Mexico City

Azure's pieces are genderless, making them ideal for anyone who appreciates jewelry, especially in recycled silver, although they also have other materials. They currently have a series of workshops where you can design your own piece of jewelry from start to finish in 3 hours, using the Art Clay technique, with an introduction to moldable silver, materials to work with in class, and guidance throughout the process. Ask for details by writing to azuremexico@yahoo.com.mx or directly on their social networks.

Textile workshop in Textilería

Mexico is world-renowned for its textiles with a designation of origin. Native peoples from practically all regions of the country have their own traditions for working art on fabrics, embroidery and other textile applications, highlighting of course those from the southwestern and southeastern states. Of course, in Bajío there is a lot of talent dedicating themselves to this for a long time, and proof of this is this space that works with fabrics, dyes and prints.

One of their most mentioned courses is the basic principles of textile dyeing, which uses materials of plant, animal and mineral origin. Other courses you can also take include frame weaving. You can always write to them directly to find out which ones they have in effect or that are about to take place. You can do so on their social networks or write to them at 5565065466.
