LOCAL SUPPORTS LOCAL #1 ANIMALS

A country, a civilization can be judged by how it treats its animals.

– Mahatma Gandhi

It was several years ago when Crystal Calderoni He was about to go on a trip outside of San Miguel, leaving his dog in the care of trusted hands. His shock would be great when he found out that his friend had been taken by Dog Control, knowing that they had made no effort to contact his owner.

As she cancelled her vacation and rushed to retrieve her dog and meet with the caretaker, her discoveries about the site's modus operandi sent shivers down her spine and she vowed to make a difference.

It turns out that they had not called him because many people change their numbers or move house and no longer bother to try to find out the origins of the dog or make the effort to reunite them with their owners.

The puppies have 10 days to be claimed by their owners or to be adopted by a loving family. If this period is met without a positive response, the puppy is inevitably sent to its cruel death.

With these shocking revelations, Crystal decided to take matters into her own hands and create the group I <3 SMA Animals which has gradually grown and added incredible and loving elements to its lines, such as the cheerful and energetic spirit of Valeria Cohen, who invites people who have doubts in their hearts about adopting to simply visit Control Canino.

Adopting one of these dogs instead of buying a purebred one is extremely therapeutic as it has proven to be beneficial for people who experience depression and anxiety.

And joining the fight of these brave women who just last year managed to save 226 adopted dogs out of the 852 that were killed, is a praiseworthy and admirable effort.

Many times, in addition to the financial support, what these dogs need is someone to visit them and give them a caress and food. The change is impressive because after fulfilling your volunteer duty, you can hear the silence of the satisfied dogs with a smile on their faces.

The work of Crystal and her foundation is of invaluable significance and they strongly request the Municipal President of San Miguel, Mauricio Trejo, to extend the 10-day period for dogs on death row to a 30-day period so that they still have a chance of living. At Local Guide we wholeheartedly support this important and humane request.

The lack of education in San Miguel should not be an excuse for the lack of empathy that people have with an animal: “don't worry, it's a dog, nothing's wrong with it” should not be a phrase that is still heard in 2023.

Dogs are like other humans, but more noble and have a better heart. They give unconditional love. They are always wagging their tails despite having gone through severe trauma.

90% of the Canine Control dogs come from families who decided to abandon them after having acquired them without having knowledge of the breed or the necessary assets to maintain them.

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are the days that the members of the Foundation visit Canine Control and we invite all the Locals who read us to join the fight as well as those who come to Saint Michael tourist destination. Together we can leave a mark and make all the difference against animal abuse.
