By Myrna Camacho

All kinds of emotions rushed through our chests when we flew in a balloon. It will never be the same for everyone. But we can give you an idea if it is your first adventure traveling in a balloon. globe

That feeling in the pit of your stomach that something new and unknown awaits you is probably the first sensation that a balloon ride will give you. Even before we get on, even while we are on our way to the meeting point. It is a feeling of absolutely normal anticipation because we are going to do an activity about which we know very little. That feeling that many will describe as nerves in the face of the unknown and that we have christened “the taste of adventure”.

As you enter the basket made of wicker and wood with a metal frame inside, even on the ground, you think: vertigo, pressure, nausea? None of these sensations await us in a balloon. The very slow vertical movement will prevent us from experiencing any unpleasant sensations during the flight, despite rising to 2,860 feet as in our case.

Another question we had, will we be cold? Since San Miguel Balloon We met at 5:30am at the Rosewood Hotel and they told us that the reason is that at this time of the morning there are calm surface winds, stable air currents and cool temperatures. The temperature in the balloon will be almost the same as on the ground, and the burners protect us from the cold as they generate heat.

The first thing we notice upon takeoff is the stability of the balloon basket. The edge is quite high, which, combined with the smooth movement and instructions from the pilot and crew, gives us a great feeling of security. Small fears and insecurities will be forgotten on the ground while we enjoy the trip with experts with more than 25 years of experience.

The balloon moves at the same speed and in the same direction as the wind. Therefore, in the basket of the balloon we will not feel the breeze in our hair or the wind on our face, since we are inside the mass of air, we move at the same time as it. Gently, just like a dandelion seed, we float with the wind.

Travelling in a balloon is not an adrenaline experience, but quite the opposite. Among the emotions of flying in a balloon we experience peace, tranquility, relaxation. Our muscles relax, our mind calms down. We feel comfortable. The sensations are of well-being. From above all the problems seem small and far away.

On most flights you travel with strangers. However, by sharing the same space and experiencing the same emotions during the trip, a good relationship will immediately develop between everyone.

Flying in a balloon for the first time. It meant enjoying the landscapes that San Miguel de Allende offers. Watching the sunrise from the basket or breaking through a layer of clouds. At regular intervals we heard the unmistakable roar of the burners, but at the same time the chirping of birds. Surprising the dogs and getting a smile from people from our viewing point among the clouds. And sharing those experiences with our loved ones, family or friends. Without a doubt, we had emotions running high. All our senses are alert to this new experience.

After flying for about an hour, we arrive at landing and the nerves return. When we land with the balloon, which has neither wheels nor landing gear, the basket, when it lands on the ground, absorbs the small impacts that the landing itself entails and we feel the satisfaction of a dream come true!

We thank the pilot, Carlos, Livia for the invitation and the entire Globo San Miguel de Allende team for all the emotions on this great morning.
