The December holidays are approaching and there are those who will have more time to read than others. For some, these times are for spending time with family and in that case, the reading moments should be short and forceful. For others, the holidays will be about spending time with oneself and introspection, and in this case, the readings can be more personal and generate internal questions.
So, here are a few very varied recommendations so that, whatever you do on this vacation, you don't stop reading.
- Clyo Mendoza's Fury

Definitely one of the favorite readings of this 2022. The author creates a desert, dreamlike and poetic literature to portray the normalized violence in towns and rural communities of our country. Vicente Barrera is a salesman
of threads that goes from town to town collecting loves and spreading their cursed seed. The text is strong, the violence is heartbreaking but the lyrics make enduring the pain worth it.
2. An Unwelcome Woman by Dominick Dunne

The novel takes place in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, and everyone envies Pauline and Jules Mendelson, an elegant couple from the Hollywood scene who seem to have everything under control. Suddenly, a series of unfortunate events reveal the dark truths of this couple and the web of secrets that surround them. It is an easy-to-read novel that will grab you in an instant and you won't be able to put it down until you finish it. It is the perfect book to read lying next to the pool with a cold beer.
3. After the winter by Guadalupe Nettel

Nettel serves us a novel about estrangement. The characters are in other climates and cities –mythical– that are not where they were born, their life and existence are insignificant compared to the cities they have come to inhabit. This novel reaffirms that life is not a story with a fair and happy ending, but, in the best of cases, you will come to the conclusion that you have limits, that there are things and feelings that you will not be able to have or feel, and with that you will have to choose whether you want to move forward. Nettel's writing is the best that currently exists in Mexican literature and you cannot let the winter pass without reading this brilliant novel.
