{"id":9070,"date":"2022-05-31T09:04:54","date_gmt":"2022-05-31T14:04:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/localguide.mx\/?p=9070"},"modified":"2022-06-03T09:27:14","modified_gmt":"2022-06-03T14:27:14","slug":"el-lienzo-urbano-del-nigromante-que-reemplaza-el-manto-estelar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/localguide.mx\/en\/el-lienzo-urbano-del-nigromante-que-reemplaza-el-manto-estelar\/","title":{"rendered":"The Necromancer&#039;s urban canvas that replaces the star cloak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without the starry mantle as a canvas to paint stars or blur horizons that overlap with clouds and mist, the artist has no choice but to replace these ethereal spaces with more tangible ones to capture his worldview.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The murals were selected by a very brave kind of artist who uses the urban landscape as a blank canvas and the passerby as a rapt spectator. Streets instead of murals and sky instead of roofs are just some of the advantages that such art offers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following the tradition of adapting old convents and abbeys into cultural centres, \u201cEl Nigromante\u201d used to be the Royal Convent of the Conception, founded thanks to the initiative and financial sponsorship of Sister Mar\u00eda Josefa Lina de la Canal y Herv\u00e1s in 1755.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The colonial house served as a school for many years and even had a period as an Army barracks until it fell into ruin and it was not until 1961 that it was rebuilt with several halls and galleries. The following year, it was inaugurated\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It owes its name to the prominent San Miguelense writer Ignacio Ram\u00edrez who adopted his nickname from necromancy, which is the art of communicating with those who have already passed on to a better or worse life, as a form of protest against the Catholic Church.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inside it houses 3 wonderful murals worthy of contemplation:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eleanor Cohen\u2019s \u201cThe Washerwomen,\u201d depicting several women and children immersed in washing clothes in shallow water, adorns the stairs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9072\" src=\"https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1438\" height=\"2560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled.jpg 1438w, https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled-575x1024.jpg 575w, https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled-768x1367.jpg 768w, https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled-863x1536.jpg 863w, https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled-1150x2048.jpg 1150w, https:\/\/localguide.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/AAA_9709-scaled-600x1068.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1438px) 100vw, 1438px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMonument to General Ignacio Allende\u201d a mural by the glorious Siqueiros that unfortunately remained unfinished because it was part of an artistic experiment in which, within the framework of a workshop, our famous muralist taught a course to war veterans from the United States but apparently war was more his thing than art and they left what could have been our own Sistine Chapel abandoned;
