These constructions are attributed to the Otomi and it is said that several tribes came to visit from various tribes such as the Mayans. It is a place with a lot of energy. Recent studies indicate that the society that inhabited Cañada de la Virgen had very advanced astronomical knowledge, which facilitated the control of time and productive cycles. It is also estimated that it was ruled by the Moon, the Sun and Venus. This place was "The House of the 13 Heavens" and was conceived as a lunar clock to establish hunting and gathering periods.

The Cañada de la Virgen archaeological site was privately donated to the INAH in 2000.
