For you, what does doing good mean? Perhaps, being consistent with what you say and do, and that what you do, every action, every decision taken, leads you towards personal growth, always trying not to harm or interfere with the well-being of others. Value judgments are usually complicated approaches because they are based entirely on what each person considers \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cbad\u201d, according to the teachings with which they were educated and what they have learned in their life. But we can agree that, by intuition, hunch or \u201cvibration\u201d, we all know and understand when we are doing the right thing, the good thing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Spreading the Word<\/b><\/h3>\n

Continuing with March as the<\/span> Women's Month<\/b>And after talking about the women of SMA who inspire us the most, and the protagonist of our cover of the month, we want to give attention to a couple of civil organizations and foundations that are doing the right thing, and whose efforts are dedicated to supporting women and girls from San Miguel de Allende and its surroundings, to guide them in their training and full development on a personal and professional level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We want to take advantage of our platform so that you, who are reading this, know that in addition to being the tourist destination par excellence in Mexico, there are many good people here who give back to the community that saw them born or that has welcomed them with open arms. We also want to encourage you to tell your friends and family about these initiatives, and to leave a little of your good will to these organizations during your visit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Organizations<\/b><\/h3>\n

\nWe start with <\/span>SMA Helping Hand<\/b><\/a>, a very noble initiative founded in 2018 that is dedicated to granting microloans and financing to entrepreneurial women, and not only that, but they also accompany them with financial education, tutoring and motivational sessions that awaken in them the spirit of entrepreneurship that leads them to consolidate their own small businesses and improve their situation and that of their community. You can write to them via <\/span>Facebook<\/b><\/a> and <\/span>Instagram<\/b><\/a> If you want to donate or support them as a volunteer, or if you prefer, you can donate directly through<\/span> PayPal<\/b> to <\/span>info@manoamigasma.com<\/span><\/a> with the option of doing it once, monthly and with a debit or credit card.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd speaking of improving the conditions of SMA women, why not start with their early education? <\/span>Women in Change<\/b><\/a> is another organization with an impeccable track record of helping educate girls and young women from different rural communities in San Miguel. In 2019 alone, they managed to raise more than 1.5 million pesos that were allocated to scholarships for 187 girls. Their goal is to promote the independence of these young women through education, raising funds so that they can continue their studies with everything that it entails: materials, supplies, books, and more. |<\/span>\u00a0Facebook<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

\nAnother organization that has been looking after the well-being of the most needy in the region is <\/span>Feed The Hungry SMA<\/b><\/a>For 35 years, they have been in charge of helping with the feeding and nutrition of low-income children, through school lunches, development of community programs and food education for families. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit Mexico, they activated an emergency plan that expanded not only geographically but also covered the feeding of entire families, supporting more than 20,000 people with packages to feed families of 2 to 5 members, with two meals a day, in addition to some cleaning and personal hygiene products. They currently have different forms of support, from annual campaigns to <\/span>donations<\/span><\/a> personal <\/span>online<\/span><\/a> or by <\/span>PayPal<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Don't be surprised by the number of organizations you can join in SMA. Others that are also dedicated to supporting women are: <\/span>Woman in the Talacha AC<\/b> and <\/span>The United Women of Salto AC<\/b>, about whom we share information below. If you want to know more, the <\/span>official tourism site of SMA<\/b><\/a> There is a section where they are listed by categories such as food, social development, arts and culture and more. It is worth taking a look and soaking up all the altruism that is being done here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Poverty in Mexico<\/b><\/h3>\n

Despite our cultural and natural wealth, Mexico is a country in great need. According to the <\/span>2018 CONEVAL study<\/span><\/a>, 61.1 million people have an income below the poverty line, and 21 million people have an income below the extreme poverty line. What impact does this have? The main indicators of social deprivation are access to social security, food and access to basic housing services; something extremely worrying, hence the importance of supporting civil networks that are fighting these indicators.
