These are not necessarily readings that focus on gender issues, but in both novels there are powerful women trying to find a clear and certain direction in their lives. This month, focused on women, is a good time to get to know some of the writers who are setting trends in contemporary literature.

Pink dirt by Fernanda Trías

Pink Mud, by Fernanda Trías, is a novel that narrates a pandemic, written long before the Covid-19 pandemic occurred. It is a novel about memory, recollections, lost relationships that we cling to as if their end would bring an end to our world, and the need to create emotional bonds in extreme situations.

The narrative of the novel happens in waves, the past, present and future exist in a single time and at times you find pages that are poems, reflections or internal dialogues that function as pauses in the middle of an intense and unbridled reading. It is a fast-paced, powerful and extremely reflective book.

     2. After the winter by Guadalupe Nettel

It is a book that narrates the physical and emotional pain of neurosis, fears and the need to survive in a place where you don't fit in. Its characters not only live in these strong and dark emotions, they also go through passion, love, friendship and affection. The author talks about the limits we have in life and the things we can never have and the way we deal with and live with that.

The novel revolves around the lives of two characters: Claudio, a Cuban who lives in New York, rigid and obsessive, with a complicated past, and Cecilia, a Mexican who studies in Paris, obsessed with cemeteries and with a childhood full of shortcomings. Both are far from their countries, have peculiar sentimental relationships and there is a moment when their lives intertwine. It is intense, and a quick read because you won't be able to put it down.

Por: Camila Sánchez Bolaño@unaboutiquedelibros Para marzo queremos recomendar la lectura de mujeres contemporáneas.
