I send you a big hug for the 22nd edition of this your favorite section “Local Soundtrack”, a space to open a conversation with artists who give life and sound to the streets of San Miguel de Allende. On this occasion, we had a beautiful conversation with Edy Rizo, a woman full of light who experiences art in all its forms.
His artistic career is broad and diverse: from dance and painting to music, which he has explored in greater depth in recent years. Edy has participated in various musical projects, such as choirs and percussion, and is currently dedicated to the creation of original music, fusing genres such as funk and hip hop.

“In these last two years, music has called me in a very significant way and when I was a child I was in the student group, then I tried to learn the violin several times, but unfortunately without success…”
Edy was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, lived for a time in Chicago and then returned to Mexico to study at university.
“I was working for several companies in the architecture field and suddenly I had a calling… like those times when you feel very inspired to go to a place without really knowing why, you start dreaming and everything tells you the name of the place, the calling was so strong that I ended up in San Miguel de Allende and here I took a diploma in dance and eventually lived here and dedicated myself more professionally to art.”
His songs are a reflection of his experiences and emotions, and seek to connect with the public through inspiring lyrics and contagious rhythms. Edy believes that music is a powerful tool to express ideas and feelings, and to connect with others.
With a sparkle in his eyes, Edy expresses his love for art in a unique way.
“I can stand in front of a building and feel like that building is alive, like it is communicating something to me or feeding me. When I dance I feel like I am flying and I can lose myself and dance for hours. I feel like it is an active meditation and it inspires people.”
His main rhythms are focused on funky and hip hop, and he also tries to make his music fun and spread good vibes to the audience.
“I like to write about what I think, my philosophy of life, my interpretation of situations. One time, my GPS got me horribly lost. I couldn’t find the exit in an area of San Miguel and at that moment I started recording everything I felt on audio. And suddenly I had about 12 audios with phrases and when I got home I turned it into a song… the music is me.”
From Edy Rizo's perspective, the music scene in San Miguel de Allende is a gem and the community of artists is very well established.

The artist highlights the importance of the local music scene, which she considers a source of cultural and economic wealth for the city. According to Edy, San Miguel de Allende offers multiple spaces for artists to express themselves and share their talent with the public.
Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy Edy Rizo's performance, which will take place on October 18th at “Paprika”, the main theme is Mexican traditions, especially now that the Day of the Dead is approaching. The repertoire will include typical songs that pay homage to traditions and the second part of the show will be a live blues set accompanied by local artists.
We thank Edy Rizo for being part of this edition of Local Soundtrack and sharing with us that beautiful and colorful perspective he has on art and life.
